The patterns and seasons and rhythms of nature guide us back to our natural harmony even without a conscious intention or plan. However it can be deeply enriching to practice healing processes amongst trees or by the beach, allowing our intention to create more harmony in our lives to be supported and inspired by non-human forms of life such as plants and animals, and by the elements of water, earth, air and fire.
It is also rewarding to deliberately create a stronger connection with the natural world through art therapy processes, using visual art expression, meditation, movement and sound, or just one or two of these. Simple rituals can be created to express our relationship with nature. This can be done alone, with an art therapist to guide and facilitate, or with a group.
Chronic fatigue and depression are just two of many conditions which have been shown to be directly assisted to lift with time in nature. Sometimes healing occurs that is beyond words, they are not needed to articulate all of our experience, nature accepts and does not judge.
Many of us feel the desire to integrate more with nature, to be in harmony with the wild as an external reflection of our internal growth and healing. As we develop awareness of ourselves as healthy and whole, we also expand into awareness of the greater reality beyond our individual selves. It is essential that we continue to grow and develop our abilities to create harmony in our own lives and cooperatively in our communities. Nature connections have a lot to teach us about harmony in diversity, and life-giving conditions and processes.
I am currently offering sessions in nature in the Bellingen area for individuals and groups. They can involve meditation, drawing with pastels, movement explorations and in some cases drumming , singing/chanting and celebrating. Whether it is for a purpose of deep concern or a more light-hearted event such as a women’s gathering with lots of laughter and play, there are many wonderful ways to engage with nature to strengthen and nurture the self. Contact me if you would like to step into the unknown and find more of yourself.
